"The best way teach a deaf child is to educate its parents first" - Jennifer E. (mom of a deaf child)

Welcome!  This page was created to help parents of deaf children. Whether your child is newly diagnosed or you need help navigating the world of their deaf journey, this page will help guide your way.

The purpose of the site is to give us parents an easy way to find the resources we need in our area as well as information in general.  This site is a ever revolving, constantly updated, set of links to informative websites, that will guide you through your journey, and hopefully help to answer questions you may have.  This page is not here to sway your decisions or give opinions on what is right or wrong.  Those decisions are hard enough on their own the last thing you need is to be bullied or disuated into making decisions that are the best for your child and your family.

As a mother of a child, who lost his hearing due to bacterial meningitis at two months of age, I felt lost.  I wanted to hop on my computer do a simple search and find all of the answers I was looking for.  I was disappointed  that it was not as simple as that.  You could, and can, find the information you need if you know where and how to look for it.    I live in Los Angeles, so luckily there were several places I could physically go to get the information I needed, but even then it took me longer than I thought it should to get that information.  But what about the parents who do not live in a metropolitan area? What were their resources?  You would think that the hospital or doctor who diagnosed your child would have some sort of pamphlet to hand out to the parents :”So your child is deaf, here’s what to do next”, but all I was told was to make an appointment with an audiologist.  The audiologist can discuss amplification with you, but not any other type of services.  Since 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents, we are completely out of our element.  If you do not know anyone else who has a deaf child or who is deaf themselves, how do you know what steps to take or  what the steps even are?

After saying for years that an easy to use, clickable website for parents needs to be made, no one picked up challenge. So, I guess it’s up to me, the non professional mother of a deaf child.  I will need help from the community (you) to keep everything up to date.
